Currently, our hours of operation are Thursday from 5 PM to 11 PM, Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 12 AM, and Sunday from 11 AM to 7 PM (brunch). Please stay tuned for updates on our permanent hours as we expand our offerings, including Monday to Friday lunch and a Sunday night event launching in September 2026.

SugaShack offers a variety of soul food options, with a menu currently evolving to enhance your dining experience. Mission

We are stewards of Soul. We preserve, protect, and promote soul music through storytelling and curated experiences, celebrating all things Soul.

That mission sets the standard the whole house runs to. Every pillar that follows is Soul, done right: the music, the food, the drinks, and the experience.

SugaShack lives in Memphis, and that is no accident. This is a city that gave the world soul out of Stax, the blues up and down Beale Street, and the gospel that fed them both. The music here did not come from a studio alone, it came from the church, the juke joint, and the corner. SugaShack was built to stand inside that legacy, not beside it.

It was born from soul music and the people who love it. Larry Springfield, Hulesy Britt, and Rick Farwell built it out of something that was already alive, the Marvin Gaye Tribute. That tribute drew the room in, and the first weekend, June 2, 2014, SugaShack opened its doors on the strength of it.

The name came straight off the canvas. Ernie Barnes painted “The Sugar Shack,” a dance hall in full motion, bodies moving to a singer and a band. Marvin Gaye put that painting on the cover of his 1976 album “I Want You.” Larry took the name from that same well, a place where the music never stops and everybody belongs on the floor.

The sound had a home and a range. Classic soul from 1969 to 1978, the golden stretch. Johnnie Taylor to Earth, Wind & Fire. A full production every night, a rhythm section, two horns, and background singers behind it. Larry's relationships in the business, including his ties to Tommy Peters of BB King's, and the rehearsal room in the bottom of the Bon Ton café where events came together, gave SugaShack a foundation most rooms never get.

Then came the Catalog Sessions. One artist celebrated at a time, their whole book honored in a single night. That is the heartbeat of SugaShack, not background music, but the catalog done justice.

In a city that wrote the book on American music, SugaShack is where the soul, the blues, and the gospel keep the party going. Right here in Memphis.
